Move of the Month |

Back Extension on
Stability Ball
Benefits:
- Total body extension
strength and stability.
Preparation:
- Drape the body over
the ball in a prone
position with the spine
flexed.
Movement:
- Stabilize the neck and
pelvis as you extend the
spine.
- Imagine there is a
ball tucked under the chin
and don't drop it.
- Slightly press the
pelvis unto the ball and
don't move it.
- Think of straightening
your spine instead of
lifting up off the ball.
- For a more difficult
exercise - extend arms

Tips & Hints |
|
|
Practice Mindfulness
Before you heap any party
food onto your plate, scan
the offerings on the table.
Consciously take one
"virtual" trip through the
buffet to see what is being
served. This will help you
make better choices. And
savor both the food you eat
and the
conversations you have with
other guests; eating more
slowly will help you be more
aware of when you are
satisifed and feeling full.
Another strategy is to
create a physical buffer
zone that is a safe distance
from the buffet, says
Victoria Shanta Retelny, RD,
LD, owner of LivingWell
Communications in Chicago.
This prevents you from being
within arm's distance of
those tempting dishes and
discourages mindless
munching.
Remember
the Law of Diminshing
Returns
Doesn't the first
bite always taste the best?
When looking at brain
chemicals signaling
"pleasure," scientists have
found that we receive less
pleasure the more we eat of
a food. So rather than
feeling like you must eat a
full serving of every
dessert at a holiday meal,
take a bite or two and
receive 90 percent of the
pleasure at 10 percent of
the calories. |
